Brace yourself because Dillon Frances is back to shock your senses with yet another high-octane visual for his recent mixtape standout, “Still Not Butter,” released via Francis’ IDGAFOS imprint and Diplo’s Mad Decent. It is a follow-up track to his previously dropped single, “Not Butter,” from his album, Money Sucks, Friends Rule. Keeping the tradition alive, Francis didn’t hold back in kicking the bar high on the insanity department for his music video. While the album, Magic is Real, has plenty of amazing songs, the production of this hilarious video particularly knocks the ball out of the park. Absolute pandemonium – that’s how I would describe it.

The Platinum-selling artist and moombahton producer, Francis, reunited with “Not Butter” video director, Brandon Dermer, and this duo never disappoints. The hilarious clip follows a couple on what looks like a shopping spree, gobbling up a plethora of questionable products, from the comfort of their couch. As the track gains momentum, the video takes a rather deranged turn as the couple becomes more grotesque with every product they consume. You won’t be able to unsee it; the epic production paints a fever dream that is amusingly chaotic, and displays an extreme rendition of modern-day consumerism..  By the end of the video, they practically looked fully plastic and eventually melt into a puddle of butter on the couch.

The head-banging turgid lyrics makes this synth-pop an iconic house-anthem. It is the kind of track that not only encourages preposterous wilding out on the dance floor, but eventually comes to a defining moment. Francis never goes wrong with his signature ‘so-stupid-it’s-smart’ formula. Fans love it, and as far as we’re concerned, that’s all that matters.

Let’s have a look at the song lyrics below!

Hello

I can’t believe it’s not butter

I still can’t believe it’s not butter

I still can’t believe it’s not butter

I still can’t believe it’s not butter

It looks great

It feels great

It can make anything better

Put it on anything

It’s good for your skin

It’s basically the real thing

No one will know

I still can’t believe it’s not butter

Switch

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Switch

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Switch

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Switch

Yeah, yeah

I still can’t believe it’s not butter

I still can’t believe it’s not butter

Beneath the surface, the video is more meaningful and calls out to people’s obsession with perfection and the lengths they go to achieve it. The director of photography, Wojciech Kielar, worked the camera masterfully and captured the song’s essence in a way that it gives the audience nervous sweats. The video progresses, and everything turns from absurd to absurdly creative, with oozing, popping liquids splattering out of their bodies! We see the couple’s transformation into plastic avatars that have little resemblance to their former selves. The man became a life-size Ken doll, which makes us wonder hoe much was special effects? Of course, we found this transformation is courtesy of visual effects powerhouse Scissor Films. With the help from local SFX makeup artist, Sasha Glasser. They kicked the bar high on this one. Through her artistry, she pulled off the superficial plastic vibes the Francis’ required, and Scissor Films’ VFX smoothed out this transformation. The costumes were done by Sydney Levy. The model looked super sassy in the white dress – minus her weird appearance that resulted after the consumption of different products.

Francis’ highly anticipated album, Magic is Real, didn’t disappoint fans. He has touched the hearts of millions and paved a way for himself in the global market that has long embraced dance music. His music is diverse and unique, and it is understandable that the collaborators on his album are equally diverse, and from all different genres! The album shares credits with names like Vera Hotsauce, Nitti Gritti, Bunji Garlin, TV Noise, and Big Freedia.

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what makes the video for Dillon Francis’ “Still Not Butter” so ripe and compelling. He never ceases to amaze me with his music and out of the box approach. To say the least, it’s refreshing! One thing is for sure, the video is sure to be rewatched again and again by all-genre music lovers.
